worship and sharing

When it comes down to it, a huge part of worship turns out to be about sharing: firstly the divine sharing with us... sharing love, sharing presence, sharing grace, sharing kindness, sharing consciousness; secondly, our own surrender and impulse to join in that sharing, to be recipient to who and everything the divine is, to be open to commune, to share in the presence and the awareness, to give thanks.

So much about the divine is about sharing and communing, and worship is perhaps less about the reification of a remote ruler, and more about surrender to love and a divine desire to share and live in community. In turn, our own lives offer possibilities of sharing to, and in doing so, perhaps, we offer right worship, we become more true. and more truly who we really are.

the convent within

Holy Holy Holy, God of grace and love, heaven and earth are full of your presence, your majesty and your love.

May your grace and peace be within our convent, may your presence be the quiet love in the midst of us. May your holy grace and presence also be in the convents of our souls.

God beyond us, you are also God within us. May we know your life. May we find you at our core, and worship you.

Beautiful and glorious one, blessed be Your Name for ever.

May we dwell with you, within, and know your love, and share food and wine in the courts of your holy sanctuary.

the sacred within

Open yourself to the sacred within. Seek stillness, seek silence, and open yourself to the silent land of your soul. The holy and sacred is a given love, a love that is given to us, and dwells in us. That creates in us and is silent with us. That trusts. And abides. Although there may be noise all around us, the joy we find in silence is a treasure, and it is already within us, waiting to be found. We don't need to journey far to find it. We don't need to journey here or there. To journey to it we just have to be still. And this silence and stillness is not only a country within us, but can reach outwards in embrace and compassion, from the sacred within. It reaches out in love, yet it is stillness and silence. It is the giving and receiving, the mutual interchange of love, between lovers, in the silent gaze, beyond speaking, beyond our defences and controls. Open yourself to the sacred within. Because the holy presence is already there.

the great silence

In the convent we observe the great silence from compline through to after breakfast.

I love that time so much, I love that place.

The stillness in the chapel.

Entering the great silence of the holy one, being entered by it, being still.

ways people pray

rengetsu asked "how do you pray"

I try to find stillness in the heart first... stillness and quiet, so hushed, you can almost feel the little tremblings and vibrations of nature... a kind of naked stillness, emptying my mind of its crowded thoughts... and... then I hope to meet with Godde.

I seek that earnest meeting, and shared awareness of a covenant of love between us, that meeting and knowing there is this thing between us... and hope to just meet Godde there in the quiet place, the still place inside my heart.

Of course, like anyone else, my heart's sometimes restless and won't settle down, because of worries and stuff.

But I seek stillness and meeting, really, and then see what follows.
